How do a chicken, a robin, and a duck make learning about math and science fun for preschoolers? With the Emmy-Award-winning PBS animated series Peep and the Big Wide World. Peep’s big wide world consists of a large city park, which presents endless opportunities for learning and understanding how the world works. Through funny and cute situations that preschoolers can quickly grasp and enjoy, Peep, Chirp, and Quack gain an understanding of math and science in the course of their adventures. The series is narrated by actress and comedian Joan Cusack, who never fails to inject her own sense of humor.
Now Peep and the Big Wide World is helping your kids learn Spanish with the launch of its new bilingual website! Here’s what I love about it: the site contains videos and activities to introduce kids age 3-5 to math and science concepts in English AND Spanish.
It’s mobile-friendly, so the activities are available on the go in both languages. Plus, if you are an educator or home schooling your child, there are some wonderful new educational resources available on the site designed to help you facilitate success for children in math and science. A year’s worth of lesson plans, available in English and Spanish, are available to help teachers become confident about teaching math and science. How cool is that?
I am definitely going to utilize the educational materials to help my daughter learn about math and science at home.
5 fun Peep and the Big Wide World Activities
Have a family movie night!
Peep and the Big Wide World is now on DVD. It’s G-rated and can be viewed in English or Spanish! My family recently enjoyed popping popcorn and getting cozy on the couch to enjoy Peep and friends’ adventures. My daughter learned about fun with mirrors (such as how they reflect light), fun with mud, fun with measuring, and fun with straws.
The DVD has cute Peep and the Big Wide World coloring pages available, but you can download them right here:
An afternoon of coloring is an ideal backup activity when the weather outside is frightful.
Explore the yard or park with a magnifying glass
Peep and his friends spend their days exploring the great outdoors, and you can too! To add to the fun, why not let your child roam with a magnifying glass exploring what captures their fancy? They will be able to check out whatever their hearts desire and learn a great deal in the process!
Explore the back yard with a flashlight at night
An outdoor night-time adventure can reveal its mysteries with the help of a flashlight. Who know what cool nocturnal stuff your kids will find?
