Do you become a different person when you’re hungry? If you’re like me, you forget to eat, and then those nasty hunger pangs start kicking in at the most inconvenient times. Before you know it, you’re contending with “HANGER”: the anger plus hunger you feel when you’re ravenous and just need something to eat to calm your inner hungry beast. The stuff you need to get done, that should be just routine, becomes frustrating; those little things that go wrong seem like the end of the world, and you let everybody know it.
I’m almost eight month’s pregnant, so I admit I’ve been suffering from “pregnancy brain” for quite a while. Yes, my emotions are already on a roller coaster, but couple this with HANGER, and there’s big trouble in my corner of the world.
Yesterday I was at Walmart doing my weekly shopping when 3 p.m. hit. It’s the afternoon slump…but dinner time’s far away so you don’t think you need to eat. Then the dreaded HANGER started nibbling around the edges of my being. You know that feeling when your energy hits a wall? I was with my kindergartner, and we were circling the aisles searching for acceptable snacks for her lunchbox. I was starting to get that “beached whale” pregnancy feeling. My daughter was insisting on planning a birthday party for one of her stuffed animals that required goodies and party decorations, and then she needed to go potty for the third time. I put my purse down on some strange goo that someone had left in my grocery cart. My patience was wearing thin.
I realized that I was the one who needed to eat! We wondered to the front of the store, and after we’d hit the little girl’s room, I noticed a beautiful display by the register. The clouds in my brain lifted, and I seemed to hear an angelic chorus and a voice say: “Eat a SNICKERS®.”
I gravitated to the display, and I noticed the bars had personalities written on the front, like “CRANKY,” “GROUCHY,” “CONFUSED,” and “LOOPY.” In my HANGER I felt all of the above! The SNICKERS® bars were speaking to me!
This pregnant mama loves a sweet treat to mix things up, and the caramel, nougat and peanut combo hit the spot. Not to mention the chocolate. Every mom deserves, no, NEEDS chocolate every day. I am convinced.
Who are you when you’re hungry? Take this quiz to find out! You’ll have a good laugh, and maybe even catch a glimpse of Grumpy Cat. I learned that I am “FEISTY” (that’s an understatement!)

Moms, what can we do to remind ourselves to eat? How can we fight HANGER, while also treating ourselves? Just for girls like us, I decided to create a snack “hanger,” DIY snack bags that can be hung on purses or bags for Mom’s convenience. It’s a fun and easy reminder to demolish your HANGER AND take a break to eat a SNICKERS®!
First, start by downloading and printing this free printable:
I used card stock on the printable to create a sturdier tag. Head to the craft store to round up some cute bags and decorative items.
Feel free to mix it up and use your imagination! Cut out the printables and use a glue stick to attach to a small gift or treat bag, or use a cute whole punch and tie the printable tag on with some colorful ribbon. The sky is the limit!
