Hello there, ladies and gents! It’s lovely to be writing for you again, as always. And hey, was that groundhog wrong about the six more weeks of utter misery? Okay, not gonna jinx it. So, anyhow… I trust everyone’s getting ready for the Oscars? I just love prizes given out by a committee, how about you? Yeah, thought so! I thought so. Instead, let’s GET OUT! And see what’s playing in theaters this weekend…
Seriously! How about some Jordan Peele? You all remember him from those awesome Comedy Central sketches on JORDAN & PEELE, right? This feature that he scripted and directed is an absolute winner. GET OUT is one heck of a brilliant horror flick that gets as many laughs from its skewering of racism and politics as it does chills by its creepy plot. Chris (Daniel Kaluuya), an African-American photographer, and his girlfriend Rose (Allison Williams), decide to spend the weekend visiting with her filthy rich, lily-white parents—a neurosurgeon/ annoying liberal (Bradley Whitford), and a hypnotherapist (Catherine Keener). It doesn’t take long for Chris to figure out that racism is only the beginning of the horrors being perpetrated at the cozy family estate. A definite must-see. Here’s the trailer:
I saw the cast list and swooned at the names Anthony Hopkins and Ben Kingsley… and was supremely disappointed by the flick. This is another one of them coulda beens. Coulda been awesome! Nicholas Hoult stars as a car thief living in Germany. His girlfriend (Felicity Jones) ends up needing a kidney transplant, and, to come up with the cash, he tries a heist. Things go south and soon he’s caught between two feuding drug lords (Hopkins, Kingsley). The script lacks depth and the characters are sadly one-dimensional. The over-abundance of slo-mo shots will leave you hoping you could b*-smack the director. The true stars of this predictable flick? The cars. No kidding. That bruising, roaring, screaming ride down the autobahn is almost worth the ticket price… almost. You decide. Here’s the trailer:
Short and sweet this time around! Enjoy your weekend, and tweet me, let me know what you thought about… well, anything at all 🙂 Adios!
