White chocolate covered pretzel bones
Prep time

White chocolate dipped pretzel bones have become all the rage on Halloween. They are also called “funny bones” in some recipes, which are widely available across the web. I adapted this “Skeleton Bones” recipe from Family Spice and added my own approach.
Recipe type: Dessert
Cuisine: Halloween
Serves: 10
  • 20 pretzel sticks
  • 40 mini marshmallows
  • 6 oz. white chocolate chips
  • 1.5 teaspoons vegetable oil
  • 1 cookie sheet
  • parchment paper
  1. First you’ll want to assemble the “bones”: attach one mini marshmallow to each end of a pretzel stick.
  2. Melt the white chocolate chips with the oil. My advice: ditch the double boiler. The microwave works just fine. Heat chips for 30 seconds. Stir, heat another 20 seconds. After that I recommend heating only in 10 second increments since it’s easy for the chips to overheat. (The oil is a secret ingredient that makes the chocolate smooth for dipping.)
  3. When the chocolate is smooth and creamy, your “bones" are ready for dipping.
  4. Transfer the melted chocolate to a shallow bowl for easy dipping.
  5. Spoon the melted chocolate over the “bones,” lift out with a fork.
  6. Place on a cookie sheet covered in parchment paper to set.
  7. Sometimes extra chocolate drips off the “bones” and congeals. These extra pieces are easily broken off to maintain the bone shape.
