Hey there folks! Here we are, another fabulous summer day, and it’s the weekend too! How about a movie to top it off? Take a look, see what I thought was (sorta) worth the cash at the theater!
Calling all Beatles fans! This light-hearted romantic what-if flick features their greatest hits. You’ll come out with a smile on your face. Other than that… it’s slim pickings. The story is contrived (a struggling singer-songwriter suddenly wakes up to a world that has never known the Beatles, and achieves fame performing their hits. But then, he’s gotta make some hard personal choices). There are loopholes in an already silly screenplay. The movie tries unsuccessfully to be funny. Its excellent cast and cinematography (almost?) make up for it. Himesh Patel is very likeable as the struggling artist; Lily James plays the love interest, Ed Sheeran plays himself, and Kate McKinnon is the L.A. music mogul. Seriously – the target audience would be Beatles fans. Otherwise, don’t go expecting anything other than romantic fluff. Here’s the trailer:
ANNABELLE COMES HOME
This seventh flick in the franchise is based on what happens after the first one: our paranormal investigating team of Ed (Patrick Wilson) and Lorraine Warren (Vera Farmiga), worried that the doll will cause problems, lock her up in a room with the other dolls. The ten-year-old daughter (McKenna Grace), her pals and the babysitter (Madison Iseman) end up dealing with the subsequent fallout.
The slow start may have you wondering if you should stay: I suggest you wait at least until the interval. Overall, it does fell like a set up for the next big event in the franchise, a practice fairly common these days. Not that that will make it any less annoying for hardcore fans… who most likely won’t be frightened even by the jump scares. Still, if it’s your first time, you’ll be uneasy. Check out the trailer:
That’s pretty much it for this weekend, as far as new flicks. If you’re not into the above, there’s always Rocketman, Godzilla/ King of the Monsters, Secret Life Of Pets, Toy Story 4, and Anna, besides others… something’s gotta please you in that list? Let me know which one you saw! And I’ll see you next time, right here. Adios!
